Network Uses a Newer Encryption Format
What happened
This network was set up with a newer version of Council's encryption than the copy on your device knows how to use. Your device stopped rather than guessing.
Nothing is wrong with your key, and nothing is wrong with the network. Both are fine. The app is simply behind.
Common causes
- Someone in the network is on a newer version of Council than you are
- Your app has not updated in a while
How to fix
- Update Council from the App Store or Play Store
- Open the app and try the network again
- If the update is not available yet, wait for it. There is nothing to fix on your side
Why the app refuses instead of trying anyway
Guessing would produce a wrong answer that looks like a right one. Council would derive the wrong value, the server would reject it, and you would be told your correct key was incorrect. Stopping with an honest message is the better failure. Your messages and files are safe and unchanged: this is a version gap, not damage, so do not delete the network or reinstall the app.
