What is the Doorstep?
The "doorstep" is Council's secure entry point to encrypted networks. When you're invited to a network, you'll see it on your doorstep — locked and waiting for the encryption key.
How it works
- You receive an invitation (QR code or link) from a network owner
- The network appears on your doorstep as "locked"
- You enter the encryption key provided by the network owner
- Council verifies your key locally (it never leaves your device)
- Once verified, the network unlocks and you can access messages
Why keys matter
Your encryption key is the only way to unlock a network. Council doesn't have access to your key and cannot reset it for you. Always store your encryption keys safely.
Key security
Your encryption key never leaves your device. Council cannot see, access, or recover your encryption key. If you lose it, you'll need to get it from the network owner again.
